In my 40 years of painting, I’ve been inspired by both the natural world around me and my urban roots in New Jersey. From the rivers and lakes of Western Massachusetts and the ocean and marshes of Martha’s Vineyard to the depth of blue hills and brilliant foliage in New England, I have found my landscapes. The urban and industrial settings of New Jersey have given way to my golden cityscape series.
My second source of inspiration is pure color. I’ve been an abstract expressionist for years, finding joy in the emotional reaction of one color next to another. This process often takes me on an unplanned journey, especially in my large canvasses. Working mostly in oil, I have experience in every medium, including watercolor, acrylic, playing with texture and layering, sometimes collage. I don’t know where my brush will take me next, but I know I can’t wait to find out.
My commissioned works include the ceramic tile mural at the Tampa International Airport in Florida, Merck Pharmaceutical Co. in NJ, Children Hospital CA and Savannah Hotel in Barbados. Other commissions in 2010 include a ceramic tile mural for the entrance of Annenberg Pavilion, at the Eisenhower Medical Center, CA.
For the past 20 years I have received specialized training as a Winsor & Newton, fine art collective demonstrator. From 2003 to 2021, I gave seminars on the properties of oils, watercolors, and their mediums at universities, retail stores and art associations throughout the Northeast.
